In the past three years, 18 states—including New Hampshire—have reformed their forfeiture laws to better protect the property rights of their residents. This sea change comes after decades of forfeiture abuses without meaningful reforms. In 2014, the Institute for Justice launched a national initiative to end policing for profit, and has been at the forefront of these legislative efforts. Learn about the threat of civil forfeiture to property rights, how IJ helped turn the tide toward reform, and what reforms are still needed—in New Hampshire and other states, and at the federal level.
