Assistant Director of the Center for Judicial Engagement 

 

The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, seeks a lawyer with 1-5 years of experience to serve as Assistant Director of IJ's Center for Judicial Engagement. The candidate will work closely with the Center's Director to produce cutting-edge research, analysis, and media material regarding the proper role of the judiciary in interpreting and enforcing the Constitution. The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing and research skills, a deep knowledge of the Constitution, public speaking ability, and an optimistic commitment to advancing liberty. The Assistant Director will author articles and op-eds, organize and participate in conferences, and engage in debates, presentations, and panel discussions on behalf of the Center. Constitutional Law Fellowships 

 

The Institute for Justice seeks candidates for its Constitutional Law Fellowship program. Fellowships are unpaid positions open to recent law school graduates interested in gaining hands-on litigation experience by working closely with IJ attorneys on cutting-edge constitutional cases. Successful candidates demonstrate a strong background in constitutional law, an interest in IJ’s mission and a commitment to the principles of free markets, limited government, and individual rights.

Institute for Justice Maffucci Fellowships

 
The Institute for Justice is seeking interns for its Maffucci Fellowship program.  Fellows work closely with IJ’s activism and coalitions team, and assist with exciting research projects, help track controversies and legislation across the country, and provide valuable administrative support to staff on a variety of tasks.  Fellows gain unique experience on the front lines of the fight for liberty. 

The Maffucci Fellowships are full-time and the duration is flexible, with a minimum commitment of three months.  Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $1,500 that increases to $2,000 with a longer-term commitment of six months or more.  Undergraduates are encouraged to attempt to obtain academic credit for their work.  Recent graduates are also welcome to apply.  Law students should apply to our clerkship program (see below). 


Candidates should possess exceptional writing skills, be attentive to detail, and have a strong commitment to individual freedom as well as an interest in property rights, free speech issues, school choice, and economic liberty.

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and two personal references.  The writing sample must be between 400-600 words.  Use Liberty in Action blog posts as a guide. Please send the materials in a single PDF to:

Strategic Research Internship 

 

The Institute for Justice seeks an unpaid research intern for its strategic research program at the Arlington, Va. headquarters. The internship will include data collection and analysis for research projects. The ideal candidate will have facility in mining online databases and data sources, the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, and persistence and good judgment in soliciting information and data from state and non-profit agencies.

The Institute for Justice is the nation’s leading libertarian public interest law firm, litigating to defend property rights, economic liberty, First Amendment freedoms and school choice. Its strategic research program is a unique initiative that combines high-quality social science and policy research with IJ’s cutting-edge litigation.
