License to Work: A National Study of Burdens from Occupational Licensing

Updates

Occupational licensing is subject to change by legislatures, licensing boards and regulatory agencies. We regularly collect information about such changes and update this licensure database. This page is designed to inform readers of changes that have been made in the data and solicit information from readers about changes in occupations and states.

The list below describes all changes made since License to Work was published in May 2012. This includes the date the change was made in the database, the occupation changed, the state(s) in which the change was made, the former requirement(s), and the new requirement(s).

When data changes are made, all related tables from the License to Work report will also be updated, and the month and year of the most recent update will be noted. Because of the length of the report, updates to the text will likely be made less frequently. Therefore, data in the text may sometimes lag behind data in the tables. The month and year of text updates are also noted so readers can easily identify the most recent information.

The scope of tracking changes in 102 occupations throughout 50 states and the District of Columbia is substantial. Therefore, we invite readers to submit updates to any of the occupations and states included here. The online form for doing so can be found here.
