The 15th anniversary of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) is just around the corner, as IJ’s activism team looks forward to continuing its work in the District to improve parents’ access to the best education for their kids!

The Opportunity Scholarship Program, which first took effect in 2004, provides need-based scholarships to D.C. children so that they can attend the participating private school of their parents’ choice. This means that more kids in the District are able to enjoy an education that is tailored to their own needs and abilities.

For many parents whose kids receive OSP scholarships, however, the process of applying to schools can be complex and daunting. That’s why IJ’s activism team has partnered with Serving Our Children (SOC), which administers the scholarship program, to support parents as they navigate tough application processes.

Throughout the past year, IJ volunteers have helped to plan and promote a variety of family-focused efforts and events—including a Halloween-themed school fair—designed to provide parents the tools and support they need to help their children succeed and successfully apply to participating schools.

As we pivot to 2019, we look forward to hosting our 8th annual D.C. Winter Carnival, a fun event for the entire family that will feature inflatables, carnival prizes, arcade games, free food, and so much more—celebrating the 15th anniversary of a program that has done so much to transform the lives of kids throughout D.C.
