National Street Vending Initiative: St. Petersburg, Fla.
In 2014, St. Petersburg unveiled looser restrictions on food trucks. Operators can obtain an annual permit to vend on public streets, although the city limits the downtown areas open to food trucks. The rules also allow food truck rallies. Before passing the revamped legislation, the city forced food trucks to obtain a temporary permit each time they opened for business. Trucks were also prohibited from vending downtown and on public rights of way.
