The IJ Clinic on Entrepreneurship partnered with the Street Vendors Association of Chicago to first legalize street food in 2015.
Even today, vendors still face steep barriers sharing their culture and providing for their families. The IJ Clinic is actively working with city stakeholders to modernize food cart rules so vendors can safely sell freshly prepared items without prohibitive costs or impractical equipment requirements.
Street food feeds millions of people around the world and brings life and energy into communities. It’s time for Chicago to create a practical rules that allow vendors to serve more types of food from pushcarts and celebrate Chicago’s commitment to multiculturalism.
