Texas Veterinary Speech II Oral Argument
On March 5, 2024 the Institute for Justice presented oral argument before a panel of judges advancing the theory that Dr. Ron Hines, a retired Texas-licensed veterinarian, is protected under the First Amendment for giving advice on animal welfare to those seeking his advice from around the world. This is the second time Dr. Hines and IJ have worked together. Previously, IJ and Dr. Hines had lost a case on the same issue. However, the U.S. Supreme Court later affirmed the First Amendment fully protects people who speak professionally prompting this new lawsuit to correct the record. IJ and Dr. Hines now await the judges to release their decision on the case.
